Jim is a researcher, relationship educator and coach, with over a decade of community-based experience. After nearly thirty years as a successful, nationally-recognized executive of non-profit organizations in a range of fields, he co-founded the Institute for 21st Century Relationships in 2000. He guided ITCR as its CEO for six years, including creating five groundbreaking Building Bridges national conferences, before merging it to become the Foundation of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) in 2006.
Continuing his research and involvement in both community and academic/practice-based endeavors, Jim saw an important unmet need for a new way of addressing the challenges posed to relationships by our contemporary environment. He created The Earth Moved, LLC, in 2012 as an educational and coaching practice to help individuals find and succeed in their ideal relationship.

He was an invited contributor to the U.S. chapter of the Continuum Complete International Encyclopedia of Sexuality. He co-edited the recent NCSF booklet, What Psychology Professionals Should Know About Polyamory. Jim is presently collaborating with Curtis Bergstrand, Ph.D. and Derrell Cox, M.A., on analyzing the largest survey of self-identified polyamorous persons ever conducted, with several academic publications anticipated, one of which is currently under review by the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy..
Jim's expertise has been sought by the Chicago Tribune, the Guardian (UK), and by TV and radio programs. He holds an undergraduate degree, with honors, in Mass Communications and Politics and Public Affairs (double major) from the University of Miami (FL), a Certificate in Association Management from the University of Maryland, and is presently enrolled in the Master of Public Health degree program of the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in California.
